Day 9 (Friday 16th)
"Animal Kingdom & 'Ohana"
Seriously? 98 degrees?? In Animal Kingdom? Yes, it's insane but at least we've now done it.
Animal Kingdom is definitely my least favourite of the Disney parks. To me, it's just not 'Disney' enough. Some of the rides are pretty good (Dinosaur, Kali River Rapids, It's Tough To Be A Bug) but i'm just not into the whole 'animal' thing. The boys seemed to enjoy it but I get the feeling it doesn't have enough excitement for them.
We first hopped on Dinosaur, a rip roaring ride with some....errr....Dinosaurs. Another ride photo added to our Photopass+ collection and another big boy ride experience for Jack.
Next up Josh and I rode Primevel Whirl, a fairground type ride which feels so out of place in a Disney Park. They also have a few sideshow attractions which I also think shouldn't really be there.
After this we went on Kali River Rapids, a favourite water ride for everyone and we all got totally drenched. Who cares when it's almost 100 degrees? We all soon dried off and Josh and I jumped on Expedition Everest, the newest Rollercoaster. I love most coasters but this thing makes me want to hurl every single time I ride it! It didn't affect Josh though and he loved it. This is one of of the few rides Jack is not tall enough for but it didn't bother him at all.
Before we left it was time for 'It's Tough To Be A Bug', a 3D show featuring characters from 'A Bugs Life'. It's a fab little show with lots of '4D' effects such as water and air being blasted into your face as you watch the movie along with a bee sting in your back from the seat you are in.
We got out of there with the heat rising and decided to spend 30 mins in the room to cool down. Luckily for us a massive storm just hit so we're gonna get showered and ready to meet our friends at Ohana, the main restaurant in our hotel. We love Ohana and this will be the first time this trip that we've eaten there.
And it was GREAT! The boys had plenty to eat and it was good to catch up with Dirk and Angie. The food was fabulous (chicken wings, salad, pork, shrimp, chicken, beef, noodles, bread pudding) and it just kept coming and coming. Ohana is the best and definitely worth making reservations 6 months ago :-)
We all then, once again, took the monorail to Magic Kingdom. We managed to ride Buzz Lightyear and Space Mountain but then the heavens opened and we ran to the Peoplemover where we had 3 trips around tomorrowland while the rain stopped. It was then a quick stop by Starbucks on the way out and a walk to the Contemporary to avoid the hundreds of people waiting for the monorail and boats where we boarded a bus which brought us back here....exhausted again....ready for a chilling day tomorrow (well, that's the plan....again ;-)
