Day 16 (Friday 23rd)
"Piracy on the high seas"
Early start today as we had to get the boys to the Grand Floridian marina for 9:30am as they were both going on a pirate adventure for 2 hours. They ate sausages on the way (sat on the monorail) and we arrived just in time to get them kitted out in black pirate lifejackets and pirate bandanas.
This was a kids only adventure and they were to stop at many locations around Bay Lake and Seven Seas Lagoon to hunt for treasure. Josh took a camera and got some great shots (below). Jack was most excited about this as his new Disney Girlfriend, Alicia, was working the ship today. Alicia has been working at the Polynesian doing the pool games and has really taken a shine to Jack. Jack is going to marry her apparently :-)
After the ship had set sail, Joanne and I jumped back on the monorail for a quick stroll around Magic Kingdom.
We first headed to Gaston's Tavern in the new Fantasyland to grab a Cinnamon Roll for breakfast. These used to be a 'must do' for me at the old Main Street Bakery but since it changed to a Starbucks this is the only place to buy them. Joanne had never had one but on this trip she's developed my addiction to all things 'cinnamonny' so we sat and munched one each with a nice cold coke.
After that we walked down to the Emporium on Main Street to have a quick mooch around the stuff there and then it was over to Starbucks (again) to grab a couple of Frappuccinos and out to the monorail to pick up the boys. It's amazing how quick that 2 hours flew by. It was really nice just ambling around, not pushing a pushchair, not having eyes in the back of your head to see what the boys were up to.
Josh and Jack had a GREAT time on their pirate adventure and came back decked in beads and jewellery with a hoard of 'treasures'.
Then it was to the pool for lunch and a dip for a couple of hours as at 6pm the boys were booked into The Neverland Club for a few hours.
The Neverland Club is a children's 'night out' at The Polynesian. It's basically a place where the boys could go and play with others, do arts and craft stuff, watch movies and play video games.
We'd planned this 6 months ago so that Joanne and I could go to EPCOT and have a 'grown up' meal together. It was really weird dropping the boys there but they entered the club (via the Darling childrens nursery window (Peter Pan)) happily enough so all seemed well.
We walked to the monorail and 20 minutes later were in EPCOT. The meal had been booked at the San Angel Inn in Mexico but that morning we checked out the menu and neither of us fancied it so I cancelled the reservation in the morning and we decided to 'wing it'.
First stop on our trip 'around the world' was at Mexico. We sat overlooking World Showcase Lagoon at the other countries and shared chicken tacos and a wild berry margarita. After that we strolled though Norway, China, Germany, Italy and the USA and arrived in Japan.
We'd never tried Sake so bought a warm one in Japan and sipped it while walking to Morocco where we wanted to eat. Joanne had a lamb wrap and I went for the chicken wrap. Both came with cous cous and lentils and it was REALLY good. We sat outside with a glass of sangria and munched on the wraps watching the world go by.
Next up was France and we were going to get dessert here but the queues were big and we were full so we skipped this and walked to the United Kingdom. The band were playing so I stood and watched them do a bit of Pink Floyd and The Police (they're a great band) and we made one last stop in Canada. We had a Torontopolitan each (see pics) and sipped them as we left the park to catch the monorail back to the Polynesian.
It was a fantastic night in EPCOT without the boys. It's the first time we've ever left them like that and it was just sooooooooo relaxing.
So we walk back to The Neverland Club and they'd been in there for 3 hours. It could have gone either way but we really hoped they loved their time there. We walked in to the door to reception and saw Jack through the nursery window, at a table, making a banner. "HI JACK"...thinking he would run to us....he turns round "Hi" and then turns back around to work on his art. Heehe. I guess HE enjoyed it then.
We peered through the door and Josh is running around playing ball games with other kids and having a blast. We basically had to drag them out of there, Josh wished he could have stayed another couple of hours and they both agreed they want to do it again. Big success all round then!
It was now 9:10pm and we gave them the option of going to Magic Kingdom or to the pool. They chose the pool unfortunately so we had a dip for an hour and then it was off to bed.
These three are still sleeping at 9:15 but as soon as we're all up it's quick breakfast then off to EPCOT for a few hours so the boys can both do 'Agent P's World Showcase Adventure' and most probably ride Test Track and Soarin' again.
